This kind of plant is considered to have a beautiful and charming blossom, but its beauty is temporary, unstable and dangerous. (The definition of holly, according to Oxford Dictionary, is A widely distributed evergreen shrub, typically having prickly dark green leaves, small white flowers, and red berries.) Bronte uses a secure simile to represent friendship. The holly-trees leaves never wilt and it could signify the char acteristic of friendship.
